Accelerating Energy Access, March 2018
50 kWp Mini-Grid Project

A key part of accelerating energy access in rural areas is the development of min-grids through public-private partnerships.
VAYA Energy has supported the development of a 50 kWp mini-grid project in the Pakau Community of Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria.
Funded as part of the Light Up Nigeria Campaign, VAYA Energy was a subcontractor on the project with a scope that included the design, specification and supply of the Balance of System Equipment (Inverter System, Charge Controllers and Communication & Monitoring System) as well as specification of the selected Battery Technology to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the community.
The 50 kWp Pakau Community mini-grid project has been online since 2017 and is managed and overseen by the main project contractor, m-Rald Global Resources Ltd. Consumers are expected to pay for electricity using prepaid tokens.
